John Dramani Mahama has been declared the president-elect of Ghana following the 2024 general elections. The announcement was made by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, after the polls held on December 7.
Mahama, the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total vote. His main rival, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.
A total of 11,191,422 valid votes were cast, with 239,109 rejected ballots. Voter turnout was recorded at 60.9% across 267 constituencies.
In addition to the presidential race, Ghanaians also elected new Members of Parliament. While some parliamentary results remain unresolved due to disputes, the NDC has secured enough seats to hold a clear majority.
