The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will not accept the collated results from the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central constituencies in the recent parliamentary elections due to irregularities.

At a press briefing on Thursday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the results were declared without completing the necessary collation process. In the case of Okaikwei Central, the winner was declared without results from 31 polling stations, while in Ablekuma North, results from 62 polling stations were omitted.

Both constituencies were initially declared in favour of candidates from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mensa described the actions as “illegal” and stressed that such declarations could not be upheld. She added that the process had been disrupted by political party supporters, despite police presence at the regional offices.

“In both constituencies, the declarations were made under threat, and we consider these actions to be illegal,” Mensa said. “The results will not be upheld by the Commission.”

The EC further revealed that it would re-collate results for nine constituencies, including Nsawan Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North, along with Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya.

Mensa urged both the outgoing and incoming Presidents to ensure enhanced security for the EC to carry out the re-collation process in a safe and orderly environment.
