The Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct the Special Voting exercise today, Monday, December 2, across 14 regions of Ghana, with the exception of the Eastern and Western Regions.
This exercise, which is a key part of the electoral process, allows security personnel, media practitioners, and election officials to cast their votes ahead of the general election on December 7. Around 131,478 voters, representing 0.007% of the total electorate of 18,741,159, are expected to participate.
The Eastern and Western Regions have been excluded from today’s voting following the EC’s decision to recall and reprint ballots due to a security breach involving broken seals. Voting in these regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa assured the public that the voting process in the 14 regions would run smoothly and transparently, stressing the Commission’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the election.
Voters in the Special Voting exercise are required to present valid identification to polling officials. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at designated centres across the 14 regions.
Votes cast today will not be counted immediately. Instead, they will be tallied on December 7 at Constituency Collation Centres and merged with the results from the general election.
Security has been heightened for the event, with the National Election Security Taskforce overseeing operations at polling stations. Political parties have deployed agents to monitor the process, while observers from various organizations are also expected to ensure transparency.
The EC has called for calm and cooperation from all stakeholders, reiterating its commitment to a free, fair, and credible election.
