EC to Rerun Parliamentary Election at Dome Kwabenya Polling Station

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will rerun the parliamentary election at a polling station in Dome Kwabenya, following ongoing challenges in the collation of results.

The Commission had previously suspended the final declaration of the constituency results for a third time, after only managing to reconcile the results from two of the three disputed polling stations. The final polling station, the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2, remained unresolved due to persistent issues.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, explained that one of the results was rejected outright as it had been declared on an incorrect statement of poll, using training sheets rather than the official forms required.

“Having rejected one result, we decided to include the two valid results and reassess the situation,” he said.

The addition of the two valid results narrowed the margin between the leading candidates to just 165 votes. However, the results from the disputed polling station, which involved 669 voters, could significantly change the outcome. If the votes from this station were awarded to the trailing candidate, they would overtake the frontrunner.

The decision to rerun the election at the affected polling station follows intense disagreements between political parties and the EC, which had threatened to derail the collation process.
