The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured that alternative methods are available to verify the results of the Ablekuma North Constituency Parliamentary election, following the destruction of ballot papers in a fire.
The fire, which broke out at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools on December 17, 2024, destroyed electoral materials, including ballot papers and pink sheets.
Speaking to Citi News at an event hosted by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) on December 18, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, confirmed that despite the loss of these materials, the commission has other means of verifying the election results.
“We have results in other forms, and once we can gather them and ensure they are complete, we can collate them,” Quaicoe explained. He emphasized the importance of upholding the voters’ decision, warning against allowing technicalities to undermine the election process.
“We should do everything to uphold the decision of the voter, not allow the process to be dictated by the survival of the fittest,” he added.
