Education Minister has inaugurated an 11-member committee tasked with overseeing the transition from the double-track system to a single-track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS).
The committee, chaired by Prof. Peter Grant from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), will review the 2024/2025 academic calendar and propose a comprehensive roadmap for the transition. Members of the committee include representatives from various key educational institutions, such as Prof. Godwin Awabil (UCC), Prof. Samuel A. Atintono (PRINCOF), and officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The committee’s primary focus is to realign the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) calendar with that of other West African countries and develop a structured approach to eliminating the double-track system. The move aims to address issues related to overcrowding, improve teaching quality, and enhance the overall consistency of education across the country’s secondary schools.
The reversal of the double-track system, which was introduced to accommodate the growing number of students, is expected to create a more stable and effective learning environment for Ghanaian students.
