Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi, has been defeated by Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a closely contested race.

Egyapa Mercer, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 11,084 votes, or 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Armah secured 14,558 votes, amounting to 56.40%.

Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected.

This marks a significant shift in the Sekondi constituency, where Egyapa Mercer had previously secured a decisive victory in the 2016 elections, winning with 59.47% of the vote.

Armah’s victory signals a strong performance for the NDC in the region, reflecting a broader trend of fiercely contested parliamentary races in the 2024 elections.
