Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned that those responsible for electoral malpractices will not escape accountability.
In a brief post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kwetey cautioned individuals involved in election irregularities, asserting that justice will be pursued after the anticipated transition of power on January 7.
“Electoral crimes have no expiry date. After January 7, the time of reckoning will come,” he wrote.
Kwetey’s comments come as the Electoral Commission (EC) continues the re-collation of results for nine contested parliamentary seats. So far, the EC has declared results in seven constituencies, all of which have gone in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). These constituencies include Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Ahafo Ano South West, and Tema Central.
The NDC’s statement suggests the party is committed to seeking justice for what it believes to be electoral misconduct, indicating their intentions to pursue accountability beyond the immediate post-election period.
