Ghana’s Minister-designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has proposed that the 24-hour economy policy, introduced by President John Mahama, could provide a solution to the challenges faced by the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative.
Speaking during her vetting before Parliament’s Appointment Committee, Ofosu-Agyare highlighted that the shortage of raw materials for factories is one of the main factors hindering the success of the 1D1F programme. She argued that the 24-hour economy would help overcome this issue by enhancing the availability of raw materials through commercial contract farming.
“The 24-hour economy will play a key role in addressing the raw material challenges. Businesses will benefit from this policy, as agribusinesses will be better equipped to supply factories, contributing to the growth of the sector,” she said.
She further explained that factories involved in the initiative would also benefit from tax holidays and other incentives, improving the prospects for long-term success.
