Ghana’s Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has denied claims that he intends to seek additional funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, Dr. Forson clarified that his previous remarks had been misinterpreted.

“I did not say I was going to request additional finance from the IMF,” he said. “That’s inaccurate reporting. What I actually stated was that additional finance could be requested if the need arises.”

Dr. Forson emphasized that his comments were speculative and dependent on future economic conditions. He stressed that flexibility in managing the country’s finances was crucial, and that seeking IMF support could be an option if circumstances warranted it.

The Finance Minister-designate also called on the media to be more cautious in their reporting to avoid misrepresentation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to sound financial management and pledged to explore all avenues to ensure Ghana’s economic stability.
