Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday inaugurated a nine-member board for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), directing the team to prioritize domestic revenue mobilization and reinforce anti-smuggling efforts.

The newly appointed board will be chaired by George Ricketts Hagan, a former Deputy Finance Minister and current Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South. Anthony Sarpong, the Commissioner of the GRA, also joins as a board member.

Other members include Patrick Nomo, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Dr. Zakaria Mumuni, Faustina Nelson, George Ayiretey, Laadi Ayamba, and Francis-Xavier Sosu.

In remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Forson underscored the GRA’s central role in supporting fiscal policy, warning that the country’s development agenda hinges on the authority’s ability to generate sustainable domestic revenue.

“We must move away from over-reliance on external financing. It is time to look within,” Forson said. He urged the board to implement robust internal controls and adopt decisive measures to clamp down on smuggling across Ghana’s borders.

The government continues to face fiscal pressures as it works to stabilize its economy and meet debt obligations, making tax compliance and revenue growth a priority for the new GRA leadership.
