The Tamale Timber Market was gutted by fire late Monday night, marking the third major market fire in Ghana in recent weeks. This follows devastating blazes at the Kantamanto Market in Accra and the Kwadaso Wood Market in Kumasi, leaving many traders facing significant losses.

Firefighters struggled to contain the fire, with the market’s congested layout and limited access to water supplies hindering efforts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The recurring incidents have raised concerns about fire safety measures at markets across the country. Authorities are being urged to investigate the causes of the fires and implement stronger fire safety measures, including better infrastructure and more frequent safety inspections.

The fires have had a severe impact on traders’ livelihoods and the local economy, with affected communities now grappling with the aftermath of these devastating losses.
