The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana has issued a final warning to holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration, instructing them to surrender their passports by March 17, 2025.

This move follows a directive from the Office of the President and a previous public announcement on January 15, 2025. According to the Ministry, a total of 404 Diplomatic Passports and 387 Service Passports have yet to be returned, despite the initial notice.

The list of individuals required to comply includes former government officials such as ex-ministers, former members of parliament, retired judges, and regional ministers, as well as business figures and others holding official passports not currently in active service. The Ministry has stressed that any passports not surrendered by the deadline will be revoked and placed on a “Stop-Watch” list, meaning they could be seized at any of the country’s entry and exit points.

The deadline for passport returns is set for March 17, 2025, and all documents must be submitted to the Ministry’s Legal and Treaties Bureau.
