Franklin Cudjoe, the Founding President of IMANI Africa, has strongly condemned what he describes as the unlawful conduct of national security operatives during a recent raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison. The search, which took place on March 19 in Accra’s Roman Ridge, has sparked controversy, especially following allegations made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin claimed that after the operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, disabled Addison’s CCTV system, they reportedly seized GHC 10,000 that was found on the former governor’s bed. The Minority Leader further suggested that some of the operatives, possibly “hungry party foot soldiers” masquerading as National Security personnel, may have used the raid as an opportunity to steal food, money, and jewelry.
In a pointed Facebook post, Cudjoe decried the actions, stating, “It is embarrassing for the Majority Leader of the ruling government to be apologizing on behalf of state-sponsored thugs who raid the homes of citizens.” He emphasized that in a civilised society, search warrants are meant for legitimate searches, not for vandalizing property or pilfering from private homes.
Mr.Cudjoe’s remarks come as tensions rise over the conduct of security forces, with many questioning whether such actions are being carried out with proper oversight or as a form of state-sanctioned misconduct.
