The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the deployment of its personnel across the country to assist the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in maintaining peace during the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

In a statement, GAF assured the public that the movement of military personnel is part of a coordinated effort with the police to ensure a peaceful electoral process. However, the Armed Forces emphasised that no military personnel would be stationed at polling stations. Instead, their role will be limited to standby support, with election security primarily the responsibility of the Police Service.

Military deployment, the statement added, would only occur upon request from the police to address specific security situations.

The GAF reassured citizens that the military presence should not cause alarm, stressing that its focus is on supporting the police in maintaining law and order during the election. It also urged Ghanaians to exercise their civic duties responsibly and follow the guidance of security forces to avoid disruptions.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of GAF’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s stability and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
