The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that head coach Otto Addo and his backroom staff are owed several months of unpaid salaries.

Henry Asante-Twum, the GFA’s Communications Director, explained that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is responsible for paying the Black Stars’ technical team, not the GFA. Speaking on Game Plan on Joy FM, Asante-Twum confirmed that salary arrears have accumulated, although he could not specify the exact duration.

“It is the Ministry’s responsibility to handle that,” he said. “We owe him [Addo] a few months, and it’s not just him but also the backroom staff.”

Asante-Twum also noted the importance of the Ministry’s involvement in any discussions regarding the termination of contracts or severance payments, as those responsibilities lie with them, not the GFA.

The disclosure comes amid increasing uncertainty over Addo’s future as head coach following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
