Ghana’s High Court (General Jurisdiction 6) dismissed an injunction request from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday, 31 October 2024, that sought to prevent the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballot papers and issuing a notice of poll for the Amenfi Central Constituency.
The NDC, along with parliamentary candidate Joana Gyan Cudjoe, had filed the injunction on 17 October 2024, challenging the EC’s decision to exclude Gyan Cudjoe as the party’s official candidate. The EC’s stance followed a previous High Court order from Sekondi in May 2024, which had instructed the commission not to recognise her as the candidate.
The court in Accra upheld the EC’s decision, citing that any move to officially acknowledge Gyan Cudjoe as the Amenfi Central NDC candidate would violate the standing Sekondi court order. The court further clarified that defying the pending ruling would amount to contempt of court.
