Ghana has launched a new chip-embedded e-passport designed to enhance security and protect citizens from identity theft.

Speaking at the unveiling of the new passport at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, December 2, Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said the upgraded passport would help prevent the tampering of personal documents and unauthorized access to biometric data.

Botchwey explained that the e-passport, which replaces the previous biometric passport, would also reduce passport processing times, making travel safer and more secure for Ghanaians.

“This transition is not just a technological upgrade, but a clear commitment to security, efficiency, and international standards,” she added.
