Independent Parliamentary candidate Louisa Buabeng, vying for the Effutu Constituency seat, has found herself at the center of a legal storm after the Winneba High Court remanded her in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime.
Buabeng was apprehended following the discovery of several voter ID cards at the residence of her aide, who is now also facing charges for unlawful possession of official documents. The case has sent shockwaves through the Effutu constituency, where Buabeng’s candidacy has stirred significant public interest.
Initially detained on November 20, Buabeng was re-arrested Wednesday evening and presented in court Thursday morning. The court, citing the gravity of the allegations, ordered her remand for four days. She is scheduled to reappear on Monday, December 1, 2024.
The incident has added a dramatic twist to the Effutu race, where Buabeng has campaigned.
As the countdown to Election Day continues, all eyes remain on the court proceedings and their potential impact on the Effutu parliamentary race.
