Ghana has seen a slight dip in its ranking on the 2024 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), dropping from a score of 43 to 42. The latest report, released on February 11 by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), reveals the country now ranks 80th out of 180 countries and territories.
This marks a worrying trend for Ghana, which has experienced a steady decline in its CPI score over the past decade, falling by five points since 2015. Despite several policy interventions and institutional reforms, the data shows that tackling corruption remains a major hurdle for the country.
In light of this decline, the GII is urging the government to implement stronger measures, including boosting Parliament’s financial oversight, creating a dedicated anti-corruption court, and pushing for the swift passage of the Conduct of Public Officers’ Bill. These reforms are seen as vital steps in improving transparency, fiscal discipline, and public trust.
