Ghana’s economy expands by 7.2% in Q3 of 2024

Provisional data from the Ghana Statistical Service indicates that Ghana’s economy grew by 7.2% in the third quarter of 2024. This marks an improvement from the second quarter’s growth of 6.9%.

The Services sector remains the largest contributor to the economy, accounting for 42.9% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at basic prices. It is followed by the Industry sector, which holds a 32.6% share, and the Agriculture sector, contributing 24.5%.

Among the sectors, Industry recorded the highest year-on-year real GDP growth at 10.4%, followed by Services with 6.4%, and Agriculture with 3.2%.

Within the Agriculture sector, the crops sub-sector experienced the highest growth, expanding by 5.9% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter. In contrast, the fishing sub-sector contracted significantly, declining by 21.7% year-on-year and 6.5% quarter-on-quarter.

In the Industry sector, mining and quarrying saw notable expansion, while the water and sewerage sub-sector contracted.

The Services sector experienced the most significant growth in Information and Communication, while activities related to personal services contracted during the third quarter.
