Ghana’s Parliament has approved a budget allocation of GH₵65,899,456 for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the 2025 fiscal year. However, the approval did not come without debate, as several MPs expressed concerns over the absence of dedicated funds for the maintenance of sports infrastructure across the country.

During the session, lawmakers emphasized the urgent need to preserve and upgrade existing sports facilities, fearing that neglect could hinder Ghana’s ability to host international tournaments and develop local talent.

In response, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams assured Parliament that the Accra Sports Stadium—one of the nation’s most iconic venues—will undergo much-needed renovations after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

However, concerns have been raised about how the allocated budget can help achieve this, as well as improve other sports.
