Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured citizens that the upcoming 2024 general election will be conducted peacefully and transparently, and that he will hand over power to whoever the people of Ghana elect.

Speaking at the Hogbetsotso Za festival in Anloga, he reaffirmed his commitment to a democratic transfer of power following the December 7 election. Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to the people of Anlo and the Volta Region for their support and prayers throughout his tenure.

Addressing an audience including dignitaries and traditional leaders, President Akufo-Addo said: “Without peace, there can be no development. The peace we currently enjoy is the peace we will carry through to the elections.” He added that he will hand over to “whoever the people of Ghana choose.”

Akufo-Addo, now concluding his final term, said he is touring the country to thank Ghanaians for their support during his presidency. He plans to revisit the Volta Region before leaving office but took the opportunity at the festival to express his appreciation.

Held in the town of Anloga, the Hogbetsotso Za festival brought together the Anlo community, including Togbi Sri III, the Awoemefia (Overlord), in a celebration of Ghana’s cultural diversity.
