Presidential candidates have committed to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

On Thursday, 28 November, the candidates gathered at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra to sign a peace pact, underscoring their commitment to upholding peace before, during, and after the elections on 7 December.

The agreement binds the presidential contenders to promote national unity and stability throughout their campaigns, pledging to conduct their activities in a manner that prioritises peace.

The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa, National Peace Council Chairman Reverend Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, and the National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.

In her remarks, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa described the peace pact as a significant milestone in Ghana’s democratic development. Meanwhile, Dr Akuffo Dampare commended the political parties, candidates, and their supporters for their conduct since the election campaign began, urging continued cooperation.

NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emphasised the importance of the agreement in ensuring a peaceful election, expressing confidence that Ghana would emerge victorious and maintain peace.

Former President and NDC flagbearer John Mahama also highlighted the need to protect peace, warning that the country must avoid the devastating impact of electoral violence.

Reverend Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, reminded Ghanaians of their collective responsibility to ensure the election remains free, fair, and transparent.
