Nigerian actor Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has expressed his support for John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the country’s December 7, 2024 elections.

Speaking on the red carpet at the 2024 EMY Awards in Accra, RMD urged Ghanaians to vote for a leader who prioritises the interests of the country above all else.

“I think they shouldn’t make the mistake that many Africans make. They should vote for the best man, the one who has your back,” RMD said. “Not many on the ballot have that commitment, so Ghanaians should choose the one who does.”

When asked about his personal preferences, RMD stated, “I like Mahama,” and expressed his belief that the former president deserved another chance to lead Ghana.

Despite not having met Mahama personally, RMD shared his admiration for the former leader’s contributions, particularly the development of Ghana’s airport. “Every time I pass through, I remember that he built it. Many of my Ghanaian friends tell me he did a lot for the country,” RMD said. “I think you should give him a chance again and see how far it goes.”

Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections are set to take place on December 7, 2024.
