GOIL PLC recently held its annual thanksgiving service in Accra, bringing together Board Members, staff, dealers, transporters, and representatives from regulatory agencies. The event also served as a farewell ceremony for the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who is stepping down after five and a half years of service.
Reginald Daniel Laryea, the Board Chairman, praised Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s leadership, highlighting his significant contributions to GOIL’s growth and resilience despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. He described GOIL as a vital player in Ghana’s oil marketing sector, serving as a trusted partner to various state institutions and agencies under Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s stewardship.
Mr. Laryea outlined key achievements during Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s tenure, including the completion of a state-of-the-art bitumen plant. This joint venture with SMB of Côte d’Ivoire was designed to meet the needs of road contractors and support Ghana’s road network expansion. Another milestone was the establishment of GOIL Upstream Ltd (GUL), which entered a Joint Operating Agreement with Planet One Oil and Gas Limited for operations in the Deepwater Cape Three Points (DWCTP) Block.
In his farewell address, Mr. Osei-Prempeh expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve. Reflecting on his tenure, he described it as both rewarding and challenging. He noted that when he assumed office, GOIL had only one strong subsidiary, GOEnergy. Since then, the company has grown significantly with the creation of GoBitumen and GOIL Upstream, as well as the implementation of the GOIL Cylinder Recirculation Model, which includes the construction of LPG filling plants in Tema and Kumasi.
He also highlighted the commissioning of five modern Auto Gas stations initiated by his predecessor, Patrick Akorli, and the expansion of GOIL’s network from 300 outlets in 2019 to 450, including 160 company-owned stations. Mr. Osei-Prempeh thanked the boards he worked with, led by Kwamena Bartels and Reginald Laryea, as well as the boards of other subsidiaries, including GO Energy. He acknowledged the support and hard work of GOIL’s management and staff during his time in office.
The thanksgiving and farewell service featured prominent church leaders such as Bishop Yaw Owusu Ansah, Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor, and Prophet Atsu Manasseh. Musical performances were delivered by Uncle Ato, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, and the GOILY Voices, GOIL’s in-house choir.
Tributes, citations, and gifts were presented to Mr. Osei-Prempeh by GOIL PLC, the GOIL Fellowship, the Association of Shareholders, and the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), among others, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the company.
