Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged candidates in Ghana’s December 7 general elections to accept the results of the polls to promote peace and uphold democratic values.
As the leader of the West African Elders Forum and the ECOWAS mission to Ghana, Jonathan is actively working to ensure a peaceful electoral process. The forum consists of former presidents from various West African nations, focused on mitigating conflicts that may arise during elections.
During a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce on December 5, Jonathan stressed the significance of conducting credible elections. He called on all stakeholders to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a model of democracy in the region.
“We want elections that will be peaceful, transparent, and credible, ensuring satisfaction among all stakeholders,” he stated. He echoed the sentiments of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), appealing to politicians to foster a peaceful atmosphere.
“Only one person wins in an election, so candidates should be prepared to either win or lose,” Jonathan concluded.
