Interior Ministry has designated Monday, September 22, as a statutory public holiday, following the weekend coincidence of Founder’s Day, typically observed on September 21.

The announcement, made in a formal statement released Wednesday, noted that the annual holiday—intended to commemorate the country’s founding leadership—falls on a Sunday this year. In response, President John Mahama has issued an Executive Instrument to shift the observance to the following Monday, in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who signed the statement, called on citizens to observe the day nationwide, as part of efforts to honor the nation’s history and its founding figures.
