The spokesperson for Ghana’s Government Transition Team, Fatima Abubakar, has dismissed claims that an agreement had been made to halt recruitment processes during the ongoing transition period.
Her remarks follow threats from President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s transition team to reverse what they described as “last-minute recruitments” initiated by the outgoing administration.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, 17th December, Abubakar stated that the transition team’s role does not suspend government activities, nor does it override the authority of the outgoing government, which remains in power until midnight on 7th January.
“There has been no agreement to halt recruitment or payments by the government,” she said. “The transition team does not interfere with the normal operations of key government bodies, such as the Ministry of Finance or the Controller and Accountant-General.”
Abubakar clarified that no new recruitment warrants had been issued since the election. She also referenced public announcements by the Ministries of the Interior and Health, inviting nurses to apply through government portals for ongoing recruitment.
Her comments are aimed at dispelling concerns over potential irregularities and reaffirming the legitimacy of the current administration during the transition period.
