Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State Designate, has unveiled plans to overhaul the government’s communication infrastructure by merging the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Information Services Department (ISD). The move, he says, is aimed at improving efficiency and modernizing how the government communicates, particularly in light of rapid technological advancements.
During his vetting on January 31, Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the obsolescence of traditional methods used by the ISD, noting that the agency’s once-popular cinema vans have become outdated. He argued that the traditional approach no longer meets the needs of a digital age.
Kwakye Ofosu further emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama envisions a more streamlined and efficient communication system, one that consolidates both the ISD and GNA into a unified Government Communication Office. The goal is to better serve the public with a more modern and responsive approach to information dissemination.
“What has become clear is that the approaches that have been adopted over the period are no longer fit for purpose,” he said, underscoring the need for change.
