The government will begin talks with transport operators in the coming weeks to discuss a possible reduction in public transport fares, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has announced.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum in Mpraeso on Saturday, Mr Nyarko said the move is in response to recent declines in fuel prices and is aimed at easing the cost of living and reducing inflation.
“As a government, we are committed to bringing down inflation, and we’ve already started to see progress,” he said. “Fuel prices are coming down, and we believe that in the next few weeks, we need to engage transport operators to reduce lorry fares accordingly.”
He added that a reduction in transport costs would have a “positive impact” on the country’s inflation figures.
The Deputy Minister also praised the Kwahu Business Forum as an important platform for collaboration between the public and private sectors. He noted that the presence of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, at the event was a sign of the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
“The presence of leaders across the political divide shows our readiness to work with all stakeholders to drive economic growth,” Mr Nyarko said.
