Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, announced that the government plans to eliminate the Double-Track system in Senior High Schools by 2027. Speaking at a meeting with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in Sunyani, Bono Region, Mr. Iddrisu outlined the government’s strategy to phase out the system, which was introduced to manage overcrowding under the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

The minister highlighted that the government will implement key reforms, including curriculum updates and a restructuring of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), to support the transition. “We are working to revise the curriculum… and the board for GETFund should be established soon to ensure proper expenditure approval,” Mr.  Iddrisu stated.

Mr. Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, emphasizing that the GETFund will remain central to improving school infrastructure across the country. By 2027, the Double-Track system is expected to be phased out as part of broader efforts to improve educational outcomes and expand access to quality schooling.
