The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has pledged to ensure a stable power supply during the rescheduled maintenance by the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo), which began on February 5 and is scheduled to end on March 2, 2025. The company confirmed that measures have been put in place to prevent power outages, commonly known as “dumsor.”

In a joint statement, GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd (ECG), under the oversight of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, assured the public that significant volumes of liquid fuel have been secured to power key plants in Tema, offering a reliable alternative energy source during the maintenance period.

Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), praised the government’s proactive approach to securing liquid fuel reserves. “The postponement of the maintenance program gives the government sufficient time to build up liquid fuel reserves. If national gas flow to power plants in the Eastern enclave is disrupted, the available reserves will ensure that power plants remain operational,” he said in an interview with Citi Business News.

Amoasi further noted that major plants, such as Asogli and the entire Tema power plant, will continue to operate unaffected, safeguarding the country’s generation capacity. He added, “This strategy will allow the government to proceed with confidence, ensuring that consumers experience a steady and reliable power supply, free from interruptions.”

The commitment comes as the government seeks to reassure the public amid concerns over potential energy disruptions during the maintenance work.
