Philemon Gyapong, the Assistant National Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has addressed growing concerns regarding recruitment within the health sector, asserting that financial clearance is now a crucial factor in the hiring process for nurses and midwives.

In an interview with Joy News  on February 24, Gyapong explained that without financial clearance, new hires are not included in the government’s budget and are not guaranteed a salary. This marks a shift from previous recruitment practices, where newly employed health workers sometimes faced delays of up to a year before being added to the payroll.

Mr.Gyapong confirmed that 15,200 health professionals have received financial clearance and are set to be added to the workforce. He further emphasized that there are no plans for additional external recruitment beyond this group.

“There is no recruitment outside of that that we are aware of,” Gyapong stated, addressing concerns about potential hires outside the cleared group.

When questioned about the possibility of a strike, Gyapong clarified that the Association’s earlier statements were meant as guidance, not a direct threat.
