In a brazen daylight heist that left residents of Accra’s Adabraka Market in shock, four heavily armed and masked gunmen seized bags of cash from a man’s parked car in full view of onlookers on Saturday, 2 November.
Eyewitnesses report that the armed assailants arrived at the bustling market and swiftly approached a red Toyota Corolla, where they fired several shots into the air, sending shoppers and vendors scrambling for safety.
The gunmen forced their way into the vehicle, which reportedly contained large sacks of cash, and quickly transferred the money to a getaway vehicle. In an attempt to further scatter the crowd, the robbers allegedly threw handfuls of cash into the air before fleeing in a Toyota Highlander, firing additional shots as they sped away.
Local residents, still shaken by the incident, described the organised nature of the robbery. One eyewitness told reporters, “We deal in gold here. Suddenly we heard gunshots, and everyone hid. The robbers went straight to the car, opened the boot, and took away bags of money.”
A second witness said, “This is not the first time something like this has happened here. The robbers were fast; by the time the police arrived, they were gone.”
The Ghana Police Service has yet to release an official statement, but video footage of the attack, circulated widely on social media, has heightened concerns about public safety in the area.
Police investigations are reportedly underway as authorities seek to reassure the community and prevent similar incidents in the future.
