Ghanaian singer Mzbel has voiced her disappointment at not receiving an appointment from the government despite her extensive support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during its campaign. In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on March 4, 2025, the singer expressed frustration over her lack of recognition, especially considering her contributions to the party’s success.

Mzbel, a vocal supporter of the NDC, explained that while she is unlikely to accept any official appointment in order to safeguard her peace of mind and reputation, she still feels slighted by the absence of any formal recognition. “I will turn down an appointment even if the President offers it, as I want to protect my peace,” she said, adding that she did not want her career to be associated with politics.

Despite her reluctance to accept an appointment, Mzbel made it clear that she would have felt honored and valued if the government had at least reached out. “I’ve been bullied, insulted, and threatened for supporting the NDC, and it’s disappointing that, with the party in power, no one has even contacted me,” she lamented.

The singer has been an active campaigner for the NDC, even leading a celebrity group called “Celebrities for Mahama” to support the party during elections. However, she now finds herself in a difficult position, as many of the party leaders she once worked with have distanced themselves, and she is struggling to get in touch with key figures.

Mzbel also pointed out the challenges faced by members of her group, who have been pressuring her to lobby for jobs and appointments. “I don’t know how appointments are being made. Maybe people submit resumes or lobby through influential contacts, but at the very least, a call from the appointing authority would have been appreciated,” she said.
