Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Agordzo has accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, of using his authority to unfairly target officers within the Ghana Police Service. In an interview on Neat FM, ACP Agordzo described Dr. Dampare’s leadership style as autocratic, alleging that certain officers were abruptly transferred to remote posts after attending a funeral with COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the current Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
ACP Agordzo, who has written a book titled “From Prosecution to Freedom: Reflections on My Journey Through the Justice System in Ghana” following his own acquittal in a high-profile coup plot case, further criticized the IGP’s approach to promotions and transfers. He claimed Dr. Dampare frequently bypasses the Transfer Board and operates a “cult-like” system that rewards favored officers while penalizing others arbitrarily.
According to Agordzo, the officers—identified as Ayisi, Adjei, and others—were punished for associating with COP Maame Tiwaa by being transferred to some of Ghana’s most remote regions. He called the transfers an example of how Dr. Dampare allegedly targets those he perceives unfavorably within the police ranks.
