Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has executed a sweeping transfer of 84 senior police officers across Ghana, repositioning personnel between the Police Headquarters and various outstations.

Among those reassigned are Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, who have been appointed to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Judicial Protection Unit, respectively. These moves come in the wake of their involvement in the controversial leaked tape scandal, which allegedly detailed a plot to oust former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The officers had previously testified before a parliamentary committee investigating the incident, defending their conduct against allegations of breaching police regulations. Following the inquiry, the committee recommended disciplinary action.

Sources within the Police Service suggest that the reassignment of Gyebi and Asare—particularly to such high-profile positions—has raised concerns, with critics viewing the transfers as implicit endorsements of their actions, rather than punitive measures. Some have expressed fears that such moves may set a troubling precedent, potentially undermining the credibility of the service.

Meanwhile, COP George Alex Mensah, a key figure in the controversy, has retired from the force. In a recent statement, COP Mensah urged IGP Yohuno to address perceived issues of favoritism and unjust promotions within the police ranks during the tenure of his predecessor, Dr. Dampare.
