Linda Akweley Ocloo, the new Greater Accra Regional Minister, has promised to restore 70% of the city’s streetlights within her first 50 days in office as part of efforts to improve safety and visibility in the capital.

Speaking to journalists on 3 February, Ocloo highlighted the repair of faulty streetlights as one of her top priorities. “Within the first 50 days, at least 70% of the streetlights will be fixed,” she said. “This is a key part of our plans to improve security and make Accra safer for its residents.”

Ocloo also revealed her commitment to tackling other critical issues such as sanitation and security in the region. She announced the reintroduction of the Regional Sanitation Day and the launch of an award for the cleanest city, aiming to boost cleanliness in Accra.

In addition, Ocloo said she would work closely with local authorities and traditional leaders to strengthen governance and promote community involvement. Part of her strategy involves supporting local districts to become more self-sustaining as part of the government’s “Resetting Agenda.”

Her statements signal a clear determination to address the city’s infrastructure challenges and improve the quality of life for residents.
