Ahmed Ibrahim, the Local Government Minister nominee, has pledged to ensure that no Metropolitan, Municipal, or District Chief Executive (MMDCE) disrespects any Member of Parliament (MP).

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, Ibrahim stressed the importance of fostering a respectful and collaborative relationship between MPs and MMDCEs to improve governance.

“I will not allow any DCE to disrespect any Member of Parliament,” he said, adding that he would create a platform for better communication between the two groups.

Ibrahim also noted concerns about some MMDCEs undermining MPs, especially when they have political ambitions to contest the same parliamentary seats. He argued that such actions hinder development and create unnecessary divisions.

The nominee emphasized that mutual respect and cooperation between MPs and MMDCEs are vital for successful implementation of government policies and effective delivery of services to local communities.
