Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister nominee for Lands and Natural Resources, has issued a bold warning against illegal mining, vowing that the government will take strong action against anyone who violates the law, regardless of political affiliation.

Speaking at his vetting on January 27, Buah made it clear that his administration will take a no-nonsense approach to combat illegal mining, stressing that political connections will not shield wrongdoers. “Illegal mining will not be tolerated. It doesn’t matter your political party,” he declared.

While acknowledging the need to support legal mining activities, Buah emphasized that the government is fully committed to tackling the devastating impact of illegal mining. He said the government would provide clear pathways for those wishing to mine legally but warned that those who choose to operate outside the law will face harsh consequences.

Buah also pointed out that his focus is not on political divisiveness, but on addressing the pressing issues facing Ghana’s mining sector. Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the government is focused on sustainable resource management, protecting the environment, and tackling the long-standing challenge of illegal mining.

“I’m not here to talk about political platforms. I’m here to solve the serious problems that affect the people of Ghana,” Buah added, emphasizing efforts to protect forest reserves, safeguard water bodies, and restore degraded lands across the country.
