Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has praised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his government’s economic reforms and effective handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter marking the conclusion of Akufo-Addo’s tenure, Georgieva commended the measures taken by his administration, which she said were instrumental in mitigating the pandemic’s impact and maintaining macroeconomic stability in Ghana.

“The policies and reforms during your administration have laid the groundwork for Ghana’s future,” Georgieva wrote, adding that Akufo-Addo’s advocacy for the Sub-Saharan Africa region during the pandemic helped secure crucial resources to address the crisis.

Georgieva also highlighted the successful completion of the third review of the IMF-supported programme and the progress made in restoring macroeconomic stability, calling it a testament to the successful partnership between the IMF and Akufo-Addo’s government. She concluded by offering a positive outlook for Ghana’s economic future.
