Jennifer Lopez voiced her disapproval of former President Donald Trump’s recent rally at Madison Square Garden, asserting it offended “every Latino in this country.” Speaking alongside Vice President Kamala Harris in Nevada on Thursday, Lopez criticized comments from a comedian at the rally who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.”

“He reminded us who he really is and how he really feels,” Lopez said, noting that the remarks offended not only Puerto Ricans but “every Latino in this country…anyone of decent character.” Lopez, whose parents were born in Puerto Rico, expressed her deep disappointment, saying, “Our pain matters. We matter. Your voice and your vote matters.”

Her endorsement highlights a string of high-profile support for Harris among Latin celebrities, who have recently united in response to the remarks. Bad Bunny, a global music icon, endorsed Harris on social media following the rally, while reggaeton artist Nicky Jam retracted his Trump endorsement, saying, “Puerto Rico should be respected.” Harris’ team has since launched a Spanish-language ad reinforcing this sentiment: “Puerto Rico is an island of scientists, poets, educators, stars, and heroes. We’re not trash; we’re more.”

During the Nevada event, Harris also spotlighted Trump’s track record on issues such as immigration and women’s rights, accusing him of spreading “hate and division.” She added that Trump’s controversial policy on family separation could return if re-elected.

Lopez encouraged attendees to use their vote as a voice for dignity and respect, underscoring the unique role of women in shaping the election’s outcome. “Women have the power to make the difference in this election,” she said, emphasizing her faith in “the power of women” to champion change.
