Actor and Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has paid tribute to his late father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr., who passed away just days before his swearing-in as a Member of Parliament.

In a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dumelo described his father, who was 75 years old, as not only a parent but his “best friend” and “number one cheerleader.” The actor, who recently won the seat in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by defeating the incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), shared the emotional details of his father’s final moments.

Dumelo revealed that just moments after a conversation with his father about a variety of topics—including politics, farming, business, and even some gossip—he received the devastating news that his father had stopped responding. Rushing to the hospital, Dumelo learned that his father had passed away.

In his tribute, the MP-elect expressed deep gratitude for his father’s guidance, support, and unwavering love. “Thanks for being my father, thanks for being my best friend, thanks for being my number one cheerleader and thanks for everything you did for me,” Dumelo wrote.

He also paid tribute to his late mother, who passed away in August last year, saying, “Say hi to mum for us all… we will miss you. Rest in perfect peace.”

The loss comes at a poignant time for Dumelo, who is set to be sworn in as an MP in the coming days, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his political career.
