The prime suspect in the murder of Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, has been found not guilty following a 4-3 decision by a seven-member jury. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, December 4.
The split decision prompted the presiding judge to discharge the jury, citing Section 285(4) of the Criminal and Other Offenses (Procedure) Act, 1960, as the verdict was deemed insufficient for further action.
Daniel Asiedu, also known as ‘Sexy Don Don’, had been charged with robbery and the murder of the late MP. Despite the jury’s acquittal, Asiedu remains in custody.
The case dates back to 2016, when Asiedu was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of JB Danquah at his home. After being declared fit for trial following psychiatric evaluation, Asiedu’s trial began in 2021. A retrial will now take place to resolve remaining uncertainties surrounding the high-profile case.
