Under-fire West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has pledged to reverse the club’s poor form, insisting, “We are going to change the situation.”
The Hammers find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League, with just one win from their last five matches. Their struggles were highlighted by a 3-1 defeat at Leicester City on Tuesday, leading to internal discussions among senior figures about Lopetegui’s future.
Despite the mounting pressure, the 58-year-old Spaniard remains committed. Speaking ahead of Monday’s crucial home clash against Wolves, Lopetegui dismissed rumors of an imminent exit.
“I have a big commitment to my work and I’m very happy to stay at West Ham. We are going to change the situation,” he said.
When asked if his job hinges on Monday’s game, Lopetegui replied, “I am not thinking about this. My focus is on the challenge ahead and preparing the team to give our fans a good day.”
West Ham fans have voiced frustrations over the team’s inconsistent form and playing style since Lopetegui replaced David Moyes in May. The Hammers have managed just four wins and suffered seven defeats in 14 league games this season.
However, Lopetegui remains confident, urging fans to stay patient as he takes responsibility for the team’s performance. “I accept the pressure. The fans are always right, and they’ve given us more than we’ve given them. We have to change this, and we’re working towards that,” he added.
West Ham will hope to capitalize on Wolves’ recent struggles, with their opponents coming off a heavy 4-0 defeat at Everton. A win on Monday could provide much-needed relief for both the team and its under-pressure manager.
