The government is taking swift action to restore stability in Obuasi after a deadly confrontation between illegal miners and military personnel. The violent clash, which occurred after miners allegedly breached the security perimeter of AngloGold Obuasi Mine, resulted in at least seven fatalities and several injuries, raising concerns over safety in the region.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President Mahama, confirmed that authorities are prioritizing an investigation into the incident. “The government is fully committed to determining what transpired, identifying those responsible, and ensuring accountability,” he said in an interview on JoyNews Am Show.

The government has dispatched additional resources to restore order, with Kwakye Ofosu emphasizing that restoring peace in Obuasi remains the top priority. “Calm has largely been restored, and the situation is being closely monitored,” he added, noting that local authorities are in control of the security situation.

In the wake of the tragedy, Kwakye Ofosu assured the public that any unlawful actions would be addressed through the legal system. “Justice will prevail, and those responsible for unlawful acts will face the consequences,” he stated.

The government has pledged to work in close coordination with local leadership and security forces to ensure the continued safety and security of Obuasi’s residents. Authorities are also focused on preventing such incidents from recurring in the future.
