The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating electoral fraud, voter intimidation, and vote-buying as Ghana prepares for the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at a training programme in Kumasi on 25 November, Air Commodore David Akrong, Deputy Commandant of the KAIPTC, stressed the importance of proactive measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

The event, held under the theme “Ghana’s 2024 Elections: Enhancing the Capacity of Women and Youth in Elections”, focused on training women and young people as election observers to ensure credibility and transparency.

“Election observers play a vital role in detecting and preventing electoral fraud, such as ballot stuffing and voter intimidation,” said Air Cdre Akrong. “By reporting irregularities and inconsistencies, they can help maintain the integrity of the process.”

He emphasised that impartiality was essential to the role of observers, warning that any bias could undermine democratic principles and lead to social unrest.

The initiative forms part of KAIPTC’s broader efforts to promote peaceful and fair elections, while empowering underrepresented groups to contribute to democratic governance.
