President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 10 individuals for regional ministerial positions, marking a significant step in his efforts to streamline governance. The nominees, who come from a range of professional backgrounds, have been submitted to Parliament for approval.
These appointments are part of the President’s broader strategy to strengthen regional governance and enhance administration efficiency. Six more regional ministers are yet to be nominated for the Central, Western, Bono, Bono East, Upper West, and Western North regions.
The first batch of nominees includes professionals from diverse fields such as education, health, business, and law. Below are the nominated individuals:
1. Ali Adolf John – Northern Region: A former education professional, Adolf John has served in various roles within the Ghana Education Service and is the current Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC.
2. John Kwadwo Gyapong – Oti Region: A former Member of Parliament and current NDC Regional Chairman for Oti, Gyapong is a business executive with a background in education.
3. James Gunu – Volta Region: A veteran media practitioner, Gunu holds degrees in journalism, development communication, and local government administration.
4. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey – Eastern Region: Awatey is a leader in governance and community development, holding an MPhil in Leadership and advocating for women’s empowerment.
5. Ibrahim Tia – North-East Region: A public health finance and local government professional, Tia has extensive experience, particularly with the National Health Insurance Scheme.
6. Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region: A medical professional and public service leader, Dr. Amoakohene is a youth leader with expertise in healthcare governance.
7. Akamugri Donatus Atanga – Upper East Region: Atanga holds a Master’s in Human Rights and has previously worked as the Coordinator of the National School Feeding Programme.
8. Charity Gardiner – Ahafo Region: A businesswoman with a strong background in human resource management, Gardiner has a particular interest in girl-child education and empowerment.
9. Salisu Bi-Awuribe – Savannah Region: A lawyer, law lecturer, and former district chief executive, Bi-Awuribe has significant experience in land economy and development.
10. Linda Ocloo – Greater Accra Region: Ocloo, the Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku, has a background in banking and finance and is an expert in administration.
The nominees are expected to bring their expertise to enhance regional governance and drive development in their respective regions. Their appointments are now subject to parliamentary approval.
