Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been remanded in custody for a second time over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani.

At a court hearing on 17 March 2025, prosecutors revealed that the case file had been sent to the Attorney-General’s office for further advice. The court granted a request to continue holding Tuffour in custody until the next hearing, scheduled for 1 April 2025, when the Attorney-General’s guidance is expected to determine the next steps in the case.

The murder has shocked the KNUST community, where Joana Yabani, described by friends as a “kind and promising young woman,” was found dead behind the university’s Central Laboratory on 27 February 2025. Reports suggest that CCTV footage captured an individual, believed to be Tuffour, allegedly strangling Yabani after a confrontation.

Tuffour was arrested shortly after the incident and made his first court appearance on 28 February 2025, where he was remanded in custody for two weeks.

Authorities have vowed to ensure a thorough investigation. “We are working closely with the relevant institutions to ensure justice is served,” said an official close to the case.
